This is another lesson in where to splurge or where to save. Remember a few years ago when oxfords with colored soles were having a moment? Trendy footwear is a place where you can save. The wear and tear is not as important so you can shop the cheaper brands like Steve Madden or Aldo because you won't be wearing those season after season.
However, if you are strapping into a suit everyday, spend money on your shoes. Spend your extra beer money on a quality pair of shoes. Classic styles (read: NO square toes) will always be in style and last you years...as long as you take care of your shoes. Find a local cobbler (They still exist, I promise) and bring your shoes in twice a year for maintenance. The combination of weekly leather upkeep and sole replacements will save you a ton a money in the long run. Learn how to clean your shoes here.
Look for styles that have a thinner sole, and a clean, sleek toe. If you want to keep your shoes a bit flashy, try a monk strap instead of a go-to lace up. Some Perforated Brogues (that distinct hole pattern design) are still formal enough for a suit but lean a bit more casual. All these looks are still very classic, but keeping a bit of interest on your feet. Click through my picks down This Way!
